In today’s class, we will make animated GIFs and videos from charts made in R with ggplot2, using the gganimate package. I use ImageMagick to combine ordinary JPG or BMP graphics files into an animated GIF or an MP4 video clip.
However in recent years the GIF has enjoyed something of a renaissance as it offered a widely supported and easy to use method for creating short animated clip (or "memes"). The most relevant question I have found here was this question about 6 years ago. So with that second image you can add a click listener to swap out the src to start the gif, and you can revert to static upon another click. I am trying to create a gif using python either through the GraphicsMagick module or using os.system commands with the ImageMagick.exe. Instead, the better solution I found, which is unfortunately also more involved, was to save PNGs for each frame and use ImageMagick to generate the final GIF. At first it was weird to see the but I'm glad ImageMagick recognizes it as a frame position. That command takes the first frame of the animated gif and generates its own image. The strategy makes sense because animated GIFs can be taxing on the CPU and costly to download so I needed to know the best way to do it.and ImageMagick again showed its face to me.Ĭreating the image is actually a simple command line execution, assuming you have ImageMagick installed: Anyways, I've noticed recently that many sites which host animated GIFs will have a static image initially and will swap the static image for the animated upon scroll or click/tap. Hell, I remember using the ImageMagick extension when I first learned PHP over a decade ago. which is itself part of the well known ImageMagic batch image processor. ImageMagick has been the industry standard for image manipulation for as long as I can remember. Animated gif images tend to be larger in file size, but will yield good results.
